About Me

My name is Matt and I am the father of a 17 month old daughter, this is my record of our life together.  As this page is entitled ‘About Me’ I feel that I should give you some information about who I am, if only so that the page doesn’t descend into an existential crisis, this impartation of information will take the form of a list

1) I am a Christadelphian, a follower of Jesus Christ.  I don’t propose to make too much of this on the blog but as it is the biggest part of my life I would be wrong to leave it out here and it will come up from time to time.  Whenever you read about us going to the meeting this is what I am talking about.  You can read more about who we are here, although the usual caveats as to quality apply to that site, you can find out about what we believe here, but I would prefer not to get into argument or debate about this here, there are plenty of places on the internet where that sort of thing is encouraged, like this site, but that is not what my blog is about.

2) I recently completed my MA in Classics researching Christian attitudes to the Roman state in the 4th Century.  There's very little humour that can be derived from that so it's probably best just to move on, I will however be making occasional reference to Classical subjects just to give you fair warning.

3) I used to play the trombone.  I would very much like to be able to say that I currently play the trombone, but as my trombone has been languishing in my parent’s house since I left around 10 years ago that would be slightly disingenuous of me.  Having left it so long I could probably barely make a sound let alone blast out any John Philip Sousa or Arthur Butterworth (incidently, if you are unacquainted with Arthur Butterworth’s work you really should take a listen (start with the Trumpet Concerto, Alla Veneziana, if you can find it, and then move on to Odin, which you can listen to here) he is a superb composer for brass.)

4) I used to play sports.  Again another fact about me set firmly in the past.  I would also like to say that I play sport but it would be wrong.  It would be nice if I could say that I stopped because I have no time, but my slight laziness would also explain some of it, also the fact that I can barely run up the hill outside my house without gettng wheezy and out of breath.  However, in my heyday (is it bad that in only my late 20s I can look back at a time in my life and call it my heyday?) I played football and basketball and rugby and cricket, sometimes all in the same week.  All this whilst running cross-country.  Looking back I’m surprised I wasn’t constantly exhausted.

5) My DIY skills, though I say so myself, are legendary.  To give you an example, fairly recently there was a day in which I managed to not fit a bracket to the ceiling, to not fit a curtain rail and curtain properly, and to not manage to put two nails in a wall and hang a picture frame all in the space of 3 short hours.  This is made all the worse by the fact that the picture frame hanging was a pity gesture from my wife to boost my confidence after the two earlier failures, my wife who has since managed to hang a picture up perfectly in that space without any help from me at all.

Hello, welcome to my blog, please make yourself at home and I hope you enjoy the tales.ß
